![]() It is a phtyoalexin - part of a class of antibiotic compounds certain plants produce as part of their natural defense systems against disease. While found in other plants, grape seeds and skin possess unusually high concentrations of resveratrol. In the last few years, researchers have begun to link resveratrol with several positive health benefits. For example, studies show resveratrol to be a powerful antioxidant that inhibits free radical production and may offer protection from cancer, diabetes, heart disease and more. |

Recently, scientist from Harvard Medical School and the National Institute for Aging revealed results of a study suggesting reveratrol may help prolong life by ameliorating the long-term negative health effects of high fat diets TThe "healthspan" benefits we saw in those obese mice treated with resveratrol, such as increased insulin sensitivity, decreased glucose levels, healthier heart and liver tissues, are positive clinical indicators and may mean we can stave off in humans age-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer", said on of the studies co-authors, Dr. David Sinclair, Harvard Medical School associate professor of Pathology, and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Labs for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging. The paper, based on a study of obese mice, showed that when their diets were augmented by resveratrol, the obese mice achieved significantly longer life spans then they would have otherwise experienced. Additionally, "the mice that were on resveratrol have not just been living longer" said DR. Sinclair. "They are also living more active, better lives. Their motor skills actually show improvement as they grow older." Health Benifits
The health implications of this and other studies regarding resveratrol and aging are far-reaching. unlike conventional science, some visionary doctors and scientists have begun to argue that what we accept as old age may really be a group of treatable diseases. If this exciting theory proves out,Resveratrol may ultimately hold one of the keys to halting - perhaps even reversing - middle and late stage effects of aging. |
